Do AI Video Credits Expire? Read This Before You Subscribe

Here's the question almost nobody asks before subscribing to an AI video tool — and the one that decides whether you get your money's worth: what happens to the credits you don't use this month?

At most AI video platforms, the answer buried in the pricing FAQ is some version of this: "Subscription credits automatically expire at the end of each monthly billing cycle. These credits are non-refundable, non-transferable, and cannot be restored once they expire."

The three flavors of expiring credits

Shopping around the AI video space, you'll meet three credit mechanics — usually stacked on top of each other:

1. Monthly-wipe subscription credits. The classic. Your plan "includes 250 credits a month," but they don't accumulate — every billing cycle resets the meter. Miss a busy month and you paid full price for nothing. The subscription math only works in the vendor's favor when you under-use it, which is exactly what most people do.

2. Daily/weekly-expiring bonus credits. Some tools hand out "free" credits for logging in daily or sharing on social — which then expire within days. It's not generosity; it's a streak mechanic designed to make you come back and, eventually, hit a paywall mid-project.

3. Burn-order tricks. Subtler: when you have both free and paid credits, the platform spends the expiring ones first. Sounds helpful — until you notice it means your paid balance is the one left exposed to the next expiry rule or plan change.

None of this is illegal, and it's disclosed if you dig. But it quietly converts "you bought 250 credits" into "you rented the possibility of 250 credits for 30 days."

The questions to ask about any credit system

Thirty seconds with any tool's pricing FAQ answers these:

• Do unused credits roll over? If the words "expire," "reset," or "end of billing cycle" appear — they don't.
• Is there a plan you can pause without losing your balance?
• Do "free" or bonus credits have a countdown?
• What's refundable? ("Non-refundable, non-transferable" tells you where you stand.)
• Does canceling the subscription void credits you already paid for?

If a tool passes all five, great — subscribe with confidence. Most don't.
